Daily Trading Ritual Checklist
TradeRitual

"Your edge is rarely your setup. It’s your ability to show up prepared the same way, every single day."
The best traders don't open their platform and start clicking buttons.
They run through a short, deliberate ritual that aligns three things:
- Market context – "What is the market telling me?"
- Trade plan – "What is my exact play today?"
- Mindset – "Am I actually ready to execute?"
That’s exactly what the Daily Ritual in TradeRitual is designed to do.
This article walks through a practical checklist you can use – whether you’re using the in-app ritual cards or a notebook on your desk.
Step 1 – Market Context (What is the market telling me?)
Before you think about your specific trades, zoom out.
Ask: "Is today a day to press, to participate, or to stand aside?"
In the app, this maps to the Market Context card:
1.1 Market Bias
- Bullish – Strong higher highs / higher lows, risk-on flows
- Neutral – Choppy, overlapping structure, no clean trend
- Bearish – Lower highs / lower lows, risk-off flows
You’re not predicting – you’re describing what is already happening.
1.2 Key Levels Identified
Make sure:
- Yesterday’s high / low and close are marked
- Overnight high / low and session range are marked
- Any major HTF support / resistance zones are on your chart
Rule of thumb:
If you couldn’t recreate your levels from memory on a blank chart, you don’t know the landscape well enough yet.
1.3 Timeframes Aligned
Quick check:
- Higher timeframe (daily/4H) bias
- Execution timeframe (1H/15m) structure
You want your trade idea flowing with the higher timeframe context, or you explicitly note you’re fading it (lower size, tighter risk).
1.4 Context Attachments (Proof)
Drop in:
- Screenshot of your marked chart
- Screenshot of the economic calendar
- Any notes / PDFs / text snapshots that support your read
This creates a paper trail you can review later:
- "What did I think the market was doing?"
- "Was that read actually correct?"
Step 2 – Trade Plan (What am I doing today?)
Once the context is clear, move to the Trade Plan card.
Here you answer: "What exact play am I taking – and what does 'good' look like?"
2.1 Setup Type
Pick one primary setup for the session:
- Breakout
- Reversal
- Trend continuation
- Range fade
If you can’t name the setup in 3 words, it’s probably too fuzzy.
2.2 Entry & Exits Defined
Before you trade, you should be able to point to:
- Clear entry trigger
- Invalidation level (where you are wrong)
- Target area or conditions to scale out
Checklist:
- [ ] Entry trigger written in one line
"Long above 4200 after 15m close, holding prior low" - [ ] Stop is placed at a price level, not a dollar amount
- [ ] Target is defined by structure, not by greed
2.3 Risk Per Trade
Fill it out:
- % of account (e.g. 0.5–1.0%)
- or fixed dollar amount
Tie this back to your daily loss limit:
- Max loss per trade × planned trades ≤ Max daily loss
2.4 R:R Ratio
Sanity check:
- At least 1:2 for normal trades
- 1:3+ for lower probability ideas or more volatile environments
If the math doesn't work before you enter, it won't magically fix itself after.
2.5 Trade Thesis
One or two sentences:
- Why this trade?
- What are you expecting price to do?
Good example:
"NQ is in a clear uptrend; yesterday’s high held as support in pre-market. I’m looking to join the trend on a pullback into that level with strong buyers stepping in."
Bad example:
"Looks like it might go up."
Step 3 – Mindset Check (Am I ready to execute?)
You can have perfect context and a brilliant plan – and still blow up if your mind isn’t right.
The Mindset Check card is where you tell the truth.
3.1 Current Mood
Don’t overthink it. Pick one:
- Calm
- Neutral
- Anxious
- FOMO
If you’re in the anxious or FOMO bucket:
- Reduce size
- Tighten your criteria
- Or don’t trade – that’s a winning decision too.
3.2 Confidence Level
Rate 1–10:
- 1–3 → Only journal and observe
- 4–6 → Normal plan, small size
- 7–10 → Execute normally, but keep rules tight
The number isn’t about the setup. It’s about yourself:
- Did you sleep?
- Any external stress?
- Have you reviewed yesterday’s mistakes?
3.3 Energy Level
Simple:
- Good
- Okay
- Low
You can’t trade well if you’re exhausted. A tired trader slowly gives back good weeks in one sloppy session.
3.4 Confirmation – "I’ve followed my trading process"
Only check this once you can honestly say:
- [ ] I went through Market Context
- [ ] I wrote down a clear Trade Plan
- [ ] I checked my mindset and adjusted size/expectations
This checkbox is your contract with yourself before you click buy or sell.
How To Use This Ritual With TradeRitual
- Open Journal → Daily Ritual in your dashboard.
- Complete:
- Market Context (left card)
- Trade Plan (middle card)
- Mindset Check (right card)
- Attach any relevant charts or notes under Context Attachments.
- Only move to executing trades once the bottom bar says something like:
100% Daily Ritual complete
- After the session, review:
- Did you actually follow the plan you wrote?
- How did your emotional state affect your decisions?
Over time, you’ll start to see a pattern:
- Green days often correlate with full ritual completion
- Red blow-up days often share the same skipped steps
A 5-Minute Minimum Ritual For Busy Days
Some days you won’t have 30 minutes. That’s fine – but don’t skip the ritual completely.
Here’s a 5-minute minimum version:
- 1 min – Mark key levels & pick market bias
- 2 min – Write one trade idea with entry, stop, target
- 1 min – Quick mood + confidence check
- 1 min – Confirm: "I’ve followed my trading process" or decide not to trade
It’s better to run a short ritual consistently than a perfect one occasionally.
Final Thoughts
A Daily Trading Ritual isn’t about making you robotic.
It’s about giving Future You fewer messes to clean up.
Every time you:
- Clarify context
- Write a real plan
- Tell the truth about your mindset
…you’re stacking probability in your favor – regardless of the outcome of any single trade.
Run the ritual before every trading day for the next 30 sessions and track the difference in:
- Win rate
- Average loss size
- Emotional swings
You’ll likely find that your edge was your preparation all along.
